Haul - The Body Shop Sale

By syila slakers · March 13, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

The Body Shop Sale the same time with the IT fair at Suntec Convention Centre was Madness.

Lucky me that my workplace is walking distance to Suntec and I was able to be there before the lunch crowd.

I assume the sale is similar to every other year. Products are sold at discounted price and ladies grab them like there'll be no Body Shop outlets tomorrow.

Here's a snippet of a lotion wagon.

I didn't go Body Shop crazy and spent hundreds $. I reminded myself of the previous sale I went and spent crazy but didnt use up all the products.

These are the items I purchased:

  • Strawberry Body Polish - S$9.90
  • Comb - S$12.90
  • Powder Foundation Refill - S$12.90
  • Peach Body Lotion - Free

I've used the Strawberry Body Polish and I ♥ it. The smell is yummy and it leaves my skin so smooth.

I ♥ my buys... Till next time.

Sponsored Reviews - Style Up with Liese

By syila slakers · November 5, 2010 · 0 Comments ·

Other than my face, my hair is the next important part of me that I take considerable care and spend time to manage.

The concern about having long hair is the constant battle of brittle and split ends. If you read my prior posts, I don’t mind spending on hair-related products to make my hair manageable and tame, the way I want it to be. So far, I have no complaints regarding the products since they improved the look and feel of my hair.

The Sample Store have sent me 2 hair products from Liese (pronounced ‘Lee-zay’ ) to test and review. I choose the following:

  • Clear Cube Wax Straight
  • Smooth Hair Cocktail

Clear Cube Wax Straight

 What it claims:

- Water-based formula that spreads easily over your hair for a silky smooth finish.
- Leaves hair looking sleek, straight and frizz-free all day.
- Non-sticky feel

- Lightly scented with a fruity fragrance

Rub a small amount of wax onto your palm and in between your fingers. Run fingers through hair from roots to ends to create natural movement.

My review:

I prefer my hair straight. Using a hair straighter have been my daily regime to make it straight. Although I rebonded a year ago, the rebonded hair have somehow turned slightly wavy. The Clear Cube Wax is an addition to part of my daily regime. After straightening, I will apply this to the bottom half of my hair. The wax weighs my hair down and keep the bottom half straight and sleek. The after-finish is smooth and provides a "wet-look". I do not apply to my crown as the wax makes my hair look flat at the top.

This is how the product looks like in the jar. The texture is wet and non-sticky to the touch, though you will feel that the product is in your hair if you used too much. The smell is pleasant and will fade off awhile later.  As for the effectiveness of it's hold, it is excellent, keeps my hair 'naturally' straight for the whole day.

The Clear Cube Wax retails for:

29g - S$6.90
65g - S$12.90

Number indicates strongest hair setting power. 06 being the strongest.

Smooth Hair Cocktail

 What it claims:

Smoothens out tangles instantly and gently so that combs/fingers can run through. Bi-layer treatment contains, Moisture Milk that nourishes and smoothens each strands of hair. Repairing Water that is absorbed instantly and hydrates hair inside out.

Before use, shake bottle well to mix the two layers. Leave on hair for awhile for the hair cocktail to be absorbed. Spray mainly onto tangled or tangle-prone portion of dry or damp hair. To loosen out your tangles effectively, conb hair slowly in stages in the following sequences:
1) Comb through hair ends.
2) Comb from mid-length to ends
3) Comb from roots to ends

My review:

The first time I saw the Smooth Hair Cocktail in Watsons when it was first launched, I was attracted to the packaging, its pink and metallic looking! This is how the hair Cocktail looks like close up:

The time went I have the most amount of tangled hair is after bathing with toweled dry hair. It is a struggle to comb and it hurts. With the Smooth Hair Cocktail, it makes detangling easy and fast. You need to shake it up to mix the Moisture Milk and Repairing Water. The first spray to my hair brings an aroma that I will describe as "delicious".

The Smooth Hair Cocktail retails for:

140 ml - S$15.90

Let's have some pictures to the the talking:

This is how my hair looks like after towel drying, and after using the above mentioned products. Well, I will let you judge my before hair. Truthfully, I can't leave the house without setting my hair. So that before picture, is a NO NO.

I'm showing you how I achieve the straigh-sleek look with Liese Clear Cub Wax and Smooth Hair Cocktail.

Step 1: Spray about 5 to 6 pumps of Smooth Hair Cocktail concentrating on the tangled areas. With a comb, I run through my hair to smooth out the tangles.
Step 2: Prior to using the hair straightener, I use a heat-protectant. Then I straighten the lenght of my hair.
Step 3 / 4: Take an appropriate amount of wax, and spread it on my hair. I like to work with small portions so that I have control over the amount and also to prevent my hair to look like it's having too much products.

Thats it! Easy and simple. All I took was 15 minutes to complete the desired look.

Why not try Liese yourself?

You may get it at Watsons, Guardian, Major supermarkets and hypermarkets. Here's a guide for you to plan what to purchase from Liese.

I'm so looking forward to Liese Iron Make Collection.

Sponsored Reviews - Biore Removers

By syila slakers · October 24, 2010 · 0 Comments ·

I was invited as one of the lucky 100 bloggers  to participate in The Sample Store Biore Bloggers' Challenge. Thanks to The Sample Store for sending the following full size items for my review.

  • Biore Makeup Remover for Eye and Lip
  • Biore Cleansing Oil Cotton Facial Sheets
  • Biore water-based makeup remover (Hydra-Clear)

This post will only include reviews for the 2 products featured above, Cleansing Oil Cotton Facial Sheets and Hydra-Clear, which I have been using alternately since receiving them for the past 2 weeks.
Wanna know what I feel on these products?
Read till the end of the post to find out!

For the sole purpose of this review, I will demonstrate the effectiveness of each product's removal power on these makeup items.

Biore Cleansing Oil Cotton Facial Sheets

What it claims:

- Throughly removes all traces of makeup including waterproof mascara without irritating or drying your skin.
- Minimises need for repeated wiping on eyelashes, eye area and face.
- Cleansing oil does not remain on skin so there is no greasy or sticky feeling after use.
- Contains moisturising agent that leaves skin soft and smooth, not tight.
-Alcohol-free 100% natural fibre sheets ideal for all skin types.

Using clean hand, gently wipe off makeup with makeup sheet. To remove waterproof mascara, place sheet on closed eyes for 5 to 6 seconds before wiping off.

My Review:

Biore Cleansing Oil Cotton Facial Sheets comes in a Pink Tub with a flip sealer to dispense the individual sheets. It is very convenient to use, just like pulling a tissue off the box. The sealer protects and prevents the moisture of the Facial Sheets from evaporation. When the facial sheets are used up, the refill can be purchases seperately excluding the tub. I like the idea of recyling the tub instead of always having to get a new one everytime its finished.

Let's have some pictures to do the talking:

I decided to illustrate the effectiveness of the Biore Cleansing Oil Cotton Facial Sheets on my eyes instead of my arms as the eyes have contours and curves where its hard to reach in removing makeup.

As instructed, I placed the sheet on my closed eye for 5 seconds before wiping off. See the sheet on the right, the circled area is the outline of my eyeliner and mascara. How cool is that!! Then the rest of my eye makeup, i wipe off gently and the sheet is able to dissolve and pick them up.

Here's my before and after picture of my eye makeup. Notice how clean and bare my eyes are after applying the wipes?
That's how effective the Biore Cleansing Oil Cotton Facial Sheets in removing waterproof and hard-to-remover makeup. The sheets are able to pick up the eyeliner in between my lashes and also the mascara on each lash strands.

I am very impressed by the ability of these sheets. Usually, I will avoid from using wipes as most of them will leave my skin in "pain" from the abrasion they caused will removing stubborn makeups. However with Biore Cleansing Oil Cotton Facial Sheets, it changed my perception.  These wipes provide a convenient way of removing makeup, any where even on the go. Its very gentle on my skin and does not leave any stinging or abrasion pain. The wipes are able to strip my face bare in less than one minute. My skin feels very clean and there's no after-feel that sticks to my skin.

If you are interested in purchasing the Biore Cleansing Oil Cotton Facial Sheets, they are selling for S$16.90 and the refill at S$11.50. Both contains 48 sheets that can last about 2 months.

Biore water-based makeup remover (Hydra-Clear)

What it claims:

This rinse off makeup remover contains a highly effective cleansing ingredients. It gently lift away all makeup, even waterproof eye makeup, without rubbing and tugging. The water-based formula does not leave your skin feeling greasy and tight.

Pour an appropriate amount and spread evenly over face and eye area. Massage gently to dissolve and lift away makeup. Rinse throughly with water.

My Review:

I have been using the Hydra Clear for the past 2 months before I received another from The Sample Store. I always use this in the toilet since it requires rinsing. I will take an appropriate amount as shown in the picture and rub it on my palm before spreading the liquid over my face. I ensure that my face is dry for best results.

Similar as my previous review, I illustrate the effectiveness of the Biore water-based makeup remover with my eye makeup. With the liquid on my palm, I massage over my eye. Instantly, my makeup dissolves my waterproof eyeliner easily. For those areas such as in between my lashes, I will use my fingers to rub them off.

The Hydra Clear may look oily in the bottle but it does not have a greasy feel on my skin. After rinsing off with water, my skin feels clean and light. There are no traces of makeup left on my eye.

A plus point about the Hydra Clear, I don't have to use a cotton pad with each application. For me, this is very convenient and environmentally friendly. I love the Hydra Clear as my all time favourite makeup remover especially for my delicate eyes.

If you are interested in purchasing the Biore water-based makeup remover, it is retailing for S$22.90.
